Is the ClassPass Membership Worth it?

Maybe you’re deciding how to start your fitness journey, or maybe you’re looking for new ways to get your workout in. Either way, you’ve probably stumbled upon ClassPass and thought: what is ClassPass and is it really better than a single studio membership?

That’s for you to decide, but if you need some guidance along the way, you’ve come to the right spot!

What is ClassPass?

ClassPass is a fitness and wellness platform that offers users access to a wide variety of fitness classes and wellness activities at various studios and gyms in your area.

It operates on a subscription-based model, allowing users to sign up for a ClassPass membership and then book classes and activities at participating fitness studios and wellness centers in their area. This offers users more flexibility as you can try various different workout types without having to acquire multiple memberships.

ClassPass aims to provide a convenient and cost-effective way for individuals to stay active, discover new fitness activities, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Using the ClassPass app or website, you can explore available classes AND make reservations, making it easier to manage your fitness routines and try new experiences.

ClassPass Membership Tiers and Pricing

There are four different membership tiers. One package has 18 credits followed by 28, 48, and 80 credits. The cost per class varies depending on the studio and the popularity of the class. I have taken plenty of classes at a reduced rate simply by going at a less popular time.

Visit the ClassPass site to see how the credits can break down into number of classes. You can find a break down of membership costs in the table below:

CreditsCost (USD$)
18$ 39
28$ 59
48$ 99
80$ 159

Often there are free trials for first time students. Depending on the time of year you should at minimum get 2 weeks worth of free credits. If you opt in at special times of the year you may be able to get a full month free.

The free trial is especially helpful if you’re new to an area and don’t know what types of workout studios are near you. You can use the trial to see what you like and then decide if you want to continue with ClassPass or buy a membership at a single studio.

Membership Benefits

One of the biggest benefits of using ClassPass is that you don’t have to settle for one work out type for a prolonged period. Many exercise studios specialize in a specific form of workout whether thats barre, pilates, yoga, cardio, or strength.

ClassPass gives you access to attend various types of studios and classes all within the same membership. As your fitness goals change, you don’t need to worry about changing your gym membership.

Working out in fitness groups is a great way to keep you motivated and aligned with your goals. ClassPass helps you build a fitness community without getting bored of doing the same workouts week after week. Cancellation policies and rescheduling options are up to the studio. There is no universal ClassPass scheduling or cancellation policy, so you’ll have to read through the class description and plan accordingly. Emergencies happen, but the best course of action is planning your classes so that you won’t need to cancel.

Class Availability and Types

If you can think it, you can probably find a ClassPass class on the app. You can browse by location, business type, and even class type. Some class types include:

A big part of working out is recovering. So you’ll be excited to know that even if you don’t use all of your credits on workout classes, they can be used for recovery appointments including massages, cryotherapy, pedicures, manicures, and even facials.

There’s a wide array of wellness studios and spas that also are a part of the ClassPass platform making it perfect for booking your workouts and recovery in one place.

Studio and Gym Partners

The studios that opt into ClassPass are based on your area and the owners of that particular gym. Some “big name” places that have offered classes through the platform in my area are Pure Barre, Club Pilates, CycleBar, Title Boxing, and Crunch Fitness.

This list doesn’t even include the numerous non-franchise gyms in the area. Depending on your location you may have more or less variety.

Booking and Reservation Process

Booking is simple! All you have to do is open the app, click on a category, and look through the gyms in your area. Once you’ve settled on a gym you’d like to try, click on the studio and then the “view schedule” button.

Now you’ll see all of the available classes and the credit costs. Click on the class you want to take and schedule! You’re all set!

Add the class to your calendar so you won’t miss it. Everyone is busy and you’ll want to schedule the time on your calendar to make your workout a priority. Read this post for more tips on building fitness into a busy schedule: How to Fit Exercise into a Hectic Schedule: Time Management Tips.

It’s important to plan ahead and book your classes well in advance so you can make sure you get the best workout times for your schedule and can take classes that match your workout goals.

Membership Management & FAQs

Your membership is yours. Everything is self managed and you can cancel at any time.

ClassPass App Extras

Beyond being a platform for booking exercise classes, ClassPass also has pre-recorded training audio that guides you through at home workouts. The best thing about this feature is that all you need is an account to use it, no membership needed!

There are treadmill, cycling, strength, and core workouts options just to name a few. On the days when running seems especially like a chore, it’s nice to have a trainer in your ear coaching you through the workout just like you’re in a class.
